What To Avoid On Moving Day

Moving to a new home is always stressful. However, there are a few things you can do to make sure you’re not overwhelmed. The moving experts at Cowboy Moving & Storage in Denver, Colorado have put together a list of things that can help your moving day be as stress-free as possible.

1.   Don’t Be Unprepared. One of the biggest mistakes you can make

when moving is to be unprepared on moving day. You’ll want all of your packing to be done before the movers arrive and have a plan where all of your furniture and belongings will go when you get to your new home. This means labeling all of your boxes with the name of the room they should go in. This can be done with sticky notes, colored painter’s tape or markers using a different color for each room.

2.   Don’t Overpack Boxes. You might be tempted to put as much as possible in every box, but don’t do it. It can make the boxes too heavy for your movers to handle them safely. Plus, too many items could cause a box to come apart.

3.   Not Making Arrangements For Your Pet On Moving Day.  It’s wise to ask a friend or family member to watch your pet on moving day, or even arrange for a doggie daycare or kennel. This will keep your pet out of the way and safe and clear the way for movers.

4.   Not Being There For The Move. You should be at both homes during your move, so you can answer questions, sign paperwork, make payments and be sure that everything is loaded and unloaded. If you can’t be there, make sure you have a trusted family member or friend there that is knowledgeable.

5.   Don’t Procrastinate. There are so many details to take care of before moving day so you want to give yourself plenty of time to plan, pack and prepare. If you procrastinate, it could end up costing you more or lead to delays.

6.   Not Doublechecking Everything. You need to communicate with your moving company about any special instructions or specific needs you may have. This could include special handling needs for property like antiques, fragile items or large items like a piano. Make sure you reconfirm your move several days before the move so there is no confusion.
