What To Expect On Moving Day

Are you getting ready to move to a new home? It’s an exciting time, but can also be very stressful. The moving experts at Cowboy Moving & Storage in Denver CO have put together this list of what you can expect on your moving day in order to reduce stress, avoid headaches and have your move go as smoothly as possible.

In all likelihood, your movers will call the day before your move to confirm the time they will be arriving. The following day, you’ll want to be sure that you or your representative will be at your address when the movers arrive. Your representative must be of legal age.

Once your movers arrive, they will probably conduct a room-by-room inventory check of your belongings before loading them on the truck. This will help make sure your items are accounted for and will arrive at the correct destination. If you have packed your own belongings, make sure all boxes are clearly marked with your name, the box contents and which room they should be placed in at your new home.

You’ll want to communicate clearly with your movers throughout the moving process. Provide your movers with any instructions about moving fragile items or possessions that require TLC. Let them know they can utilize your bathroom during the move. It’s also nice to provide your movers with bottled water during the day. To establish good will, you might want to provide snacks or even lunch.

Movers will place film over carpets and cover flooring to make sure they don’t track in dirt during the move. They’ll start loading the truck with your possessions. They are experienced and efficient, and know how to maximize space as they load the moving truck or van.

You’ll need to approve and sign the inventory list after everything has been loaded on to the truck, so it’s important to pay attention during the move. Be sure to do a final walkthrough after the truck is loaded to make sure nothing has been left in the attic, closets, garage or other spaces.

If your move is a local one, you’ll follow them to your new home to begin supervising the unloading of the moving truck or van. If you are moving out of town, you’ll meet your movers at the final destination on the agreed-upon day and time.

When your items are being unloaded, you’ll need to guide the movers on where items should be placed in your home. You’ll also need to check for damages. Document everything with photos and on the inventory paperwork so they are aware of any issues before they leave.
